First Step: Schedule a Home Assessment

Xcel Energy Home Energy Squad – Free
The Home Energy Squad is a team of energy experts that help you identify ways to save energy with a personalized home assessment. Plus, they do things like swap out traditional lightbulbs for LEDs, install a smart thermostat, weather-strip a drafty door, and install high-efficiency showerheads and faucet aerators.

Eligibility requirements apply:

• You must be a residential customer of Xcel Energy for electricity and/or natural gas in Colorado.
• Renters are eligible to participate in Home Energy Squad. Prior approval from the property owner/landlord is required.

United Power Energy Management Specialist
Whether you are just starting your journey toward energy efficiency or have already taken your first steps, a United Power energy management specialist is available to answer your questions and provide some guidance to help you save on your energy bill. • Energy Saving Tips
  Check out Xcel Energy’s Energy Saving Tips or United Power’s Quick Tips to help you quickly save energy and build habits that keep your home running efficiently. Follow these quick energy tips about heating and cooling, lighting, in the kitchen and laundry room savings to find easy ways to save.
• LED Lighting
  LEDs, especially ENERGY STAR®-qualified products, use at least 75% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than the traditional incandescent bulbs they replace. Xcel Energy has teamed up with participating retailers to bring you special discounts. Take advantage of the savings at Xcel Energy’s website, or have your whole home retrofitted for free as part of a Home Energy Squad visit.
• Smart Thermostat Rewards
  During certain times of the day, there are periods when demand for electricity can spike. To help manage these spikes, Xcel Energy and Untied Power offer incentives for smart thermostats.
  • Xcel Energy’s AC Rewards program offers a free smart thermostat with installation plus the option to earn up to $25 per thermostat.
  • Participants in United Power’s Smart Rewards program earn $30 each summer for participating with a qualified smart thermostat. Visit the website or call member services at 303-637-1300.
  • Hot summer days mean increased AC use. By participating in our Saver’s Switch program, you help manage high demand peaks by cutting back just a little on the time your central air works to cool your home. In exchange you will receive a credit on your October electric bill each year you participate in the program. • Refrigerator Recycling
  Try a safe, helpful way to get rid of that old, still-functional fridge or freezer. If you’re an Xcel Energy electricity customer, they’ll come pick it up and recycle it for free and give you a $50 rebate. Visit xcelenergy.com/Fridge or call 888-356-7660 to schedule your pickup.

Deeper Savings: Heating and Cooling Efficiency

If you’re looking for more targeted opportunities to save, consider these programs:

• Power Ahead Colorado
  Power Ahead Colorado provides home and building owners with a trusted path to healthier, safer comfort, through rightsized heat pumps, expert advising, vetted installers and rebate support. It is a program run by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). In 2024, DRCOG received nearly $200 million in federal funding to help cut air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. • Insulation and Air Sealing
  You could be losing up to 20% of the energy used to heat and cool your home through air leakage and poor insulation. Enjoy year-round comfort while earning an insulation and air sealing rebate. To receive a rebate, you must be a residential electric and/or natural gas customer of Xcel Energy in Colorado and all insulation and air sealing upgrades must be completed by a participating contractor. • Colorado Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)
  Income qualified customers can receive energy and utility bill saving services at no cost through Colorado’s Weatherization Assistance Program. If you are a recipient of LEAP, SNAP, SSI or TANF, you automatically qualify. Explore energy efficiency solutions to start saving right away! The Arapahoe County Weatherization Division serves both Adams and Arapahoe counties. • Heating and Cooling Efficiency
  Heating and cooling your home can account for 50% of your energy bill.

  • United Power members can receive incentives for upgrading to efficient electric heat pumps for heating and cooling. Visit United Power’s Heat Pump webpage to learn more.

• Water Heater Rebates
  All-electric heat pump hot water heaters (HPWH) can use 50% less energy and produce 77% fewer emissions compared to conventional gas-powered water tanks.

• Colorado Heat Pump Tax Credits: Coloradans can take advantage of state incentives to install heat pumps for space heating and cooling and water heating. All Colorado residents, businesses, and other organizations who install an eligible heat pump through a registered contractor may receive a portion of the tax credit (at least 33.33%) as a discount at the time of installation.
