The Middle of Knowing

Textile Installation by artist Tricia Waddell

Exhibition Date: April-June 2026
Textile artist Tricia Waddell’s exhibition, The Middle of Knowing, explores personal narratives and fragments of memory about the ways we struggle to express our deepest needs in the messy middle of relationships and challenging life changes. She combines hand-dyed and painted cloth, fiber, and mixed-media elements, along with original photography to create “psychological maps” and soft sculptures that tell intimate stories of unspoken emotions, vulnerability, and empathy. Her work explores the evocative nature of fabric objects and the ability of plush surfaces to absorb and extrude materials to represent internal struggle, hope, and connection.

About Tricia Waddell

Tricia Waddell is the textile artist behind Studio Blkbird, based in Denver. Inspired by her degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, she uses dyes and textile paint to create visual textures influenced by abstract art, ceramics, and graphic design. Through a visceral combination of dye, cloth, and texture, she creates soft sculptures and wall pieces that incorporate mixed media, fiber art elements, and sound to explore issues of mental health vulnerability, and self-acceptance.
