Artist Selection Panel members play a critical role in the public art process by helping identify thought-provoking artists who speak to a place, represent our diverse communities, add vitality to Adams County’s vast environments, and enrich and diversify the county’s art collection.

Pecos Street Median Artwork: Urban/Industrial Sculpture Series
As part of the Pecos Street Widening Project, Adams County Parks, Open Space & Cultural Arts is seeking an artist or team of artists to create a series of original sculptures for a group of medians running down Pecos Street, from W. 52nd to W. 56th Ave. Community members are encouraged to apply for the unique artist selection panel, responsible for selecting the artist whose work will be installed in the new medians.

Artist Selection Panel Roles, Responsibilities, and Timeline
The role of the selection panel is to recommend an artist or artist team for a site-specific public art commission. Panelists are review artist applications to learn about their practice and previous works.. Panelists select a group of finalists and conduct art panel interviews. POSCA will make the final decision for award for the best Artist/Work of Art for the County.
Each public art panel consists of a carefully selected and diverse group who each bring a crucial, unique perspective to the process.
For each project the Public Art Selection Panel will jury, vote, interview artists, and recommend the award. The panel will evaluate each artist/artwork using selection criteria that reflects each project’s specific goals. The Parks, Open Space & Cultural Arts Department / the BOCC make the final decision for award for the best Artist/Work of Art for the County.
As the Call for Entry is drafted, released, and artists are submitting applications for consideration, the artist selection panel members are identified and convened.
- Panel Orientation
- One weekday evening, dinner provided
- In-person only, no hybrid option
- Meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.
- Artist Selection Panel Members score applications
- Panel members review and score artists’ submission materials through an online portal at their convenience
- Online, 4-8 hours
- Two to four finalists will be selected based on panel scores
- Artist Selection Panel Members review project-specific proposals
- Panel members will have 1 week to review a PDF of each proposal online, at their convenience.
- 2-3 hours
- Artist Selection Panel will convene and interview finalists to make a recommendation to award the project.
- Two–three weekday evenings from 5-7:30 p.m., dinner provided
- In-person only, no hybrid option

About the Percentage for the Arts Program
This project is funded by the Adams County Percentage for the Arts Program, which dedicates 2% of all construction costs for all eligible capital projects to bringing arts and culture to Adams County. Learn more about this unique and impactful program here.
