Waste Reduction

Reducing the amount of material going into landfills is very important as outlined below:

Landfill Space: Landfills have finite amount of space. The longer a landfill can be kept open the better because finding land for a new landfill is challenging due to space constraints, permitting, and community members generally do not want to live near a landfill.

Greenhouse gas emission: Throwing away organics like fruit and vegetable peels produce methane. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas and contributes to climate changes. Consider composting organic waste.

Pollution of Soil and Water: Landfills can leak harmful chemicals into soil and water systems, leading to potential contamination.

Adams County does no provide trash, recycling, or composting services. Learn more about setting up these services or drop-off sites.
