Governor Polis Orders Flags to Half-Staff Honoring the 25th Anniversary of September 11th

September 11th, 2026

DENVER – Today, to mark the 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001, Governor Polis ordered flags to half-staff in honor of the lives lost in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. Governor Polis ordered flags to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, September 11, 2026. This also aligns with President Trump’s proclamation.

“September 11 was so vivid, it’s hard to grasp that the horrific terrorist attack on our homeland was a quarter century ago. For those who suffered loss, the pain is still fresh. And for many Coloradans, who were too young or not born when the attacks occurred, today is a somber and important remembrance of that awful terrorist attack. Twenty-five years ago, Coloradans watched the unthinkable unfold, and in the days that followed, we saw the very best of America rise to meet it. We honor the 2,977 lives lost, we thank the first responders who ran toward danger, and we recommit to the unity that carried us through. Colorado stands with the families who carry this loss and our flags fly at half-staff today in honor of them,” said Governor Jared Polis.

“We remember the 2,977 individuals we lost 25 years ago and the families and communities that were forever impacted by their loss as well as the first responders who rushed to the aid of their neighbors. That’s why 9/11 has become a National Day of Service and it’s a chance for all of us to turn grief into action. Every act of service carries that spirit of unity forward and ensures their legacy lives on,” said Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera.
