ReadyAdams – Community Resilience Program

The ReadyAdams Community Resilience Program educational program is offered to Adams County residents and businesses who have an interest in improving their knowledge of disaster preparedness. The goal is to strengthen our community resilience through quick educational classes, both virtual and in-person, with most training sessions lasting approximately one hour. Classes are completely free and are taught either virtually or at locations across Adams County.

The ReadyAdams team also comes to you, hosting training sessions at neighborhood groups, businesses, faith-based organizations, schools, clubs, and other interested parties via individual request. Classes are normally taught in English, but other language needs may be able to be accommodated with prior coordination. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Community Preparedness Program Course Summaries

Our pets and animals can be like family, so preparing an emergency plan for them makes sense. During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn how to create a plan, build an emergency kit, and develop an evacuation strategy for your animals.

In this course, you’ll learn how to prepare for emergencies and stay informed. By working along with the facilitator, you’ll understand the foundational skills for building out your household’s emergency preparedness plan and increase your personal resilience.

Fires, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, arson, and active shooters can all affect houses of worship. With incidents occurring with little to no warning, many houses of worship need to develop and update plans and procedures to ensure the safety and security of their congregations, staff, and facilities. This free, on-demand course is designed to help faith-based leaders be ready for any emergency within their houses of worship.

Americans at all income levels have experienced the challenges of rebuilding their lives after a disaster or other emergency. During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn the basics of how to become more financially resilient and build an emergency savings fund.

Health is paramount for everything in our lives. From relaxing at home to hiking a fourteener, our health affects everything we do. When disaster strikes, our health can be negatively impacted. During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn how to prepare for the health of you and your household, develop backup resources for your healthcare needs, and understand how to improve your recovery from disaster.

During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn the foundation tools for making an emergency plan for you and your household. Learn common emergency terms, how to identify your hazards, and develop a plan to become more resilient.

They may require you to have supplies on-hand until things can get back to normal. These events can be bad enough on their own and even worse in times of disaster. During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn the basics of how to keep your property and household in tip-top shape so when disasters happen your household, appliances, tools, and equipment are ready.

Disasters can have negative impacts on us all. This is especially true for aging adults. Therefore, it is vitally important to be prepared. During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn about resources designed to help elderly adults prepare and how to create a support network of family, friends, and others who can assist you during a disaster.

Traveling can be one of the most rewarding experiences. However, emergencies occur anytime, anyplace, and to anyone. During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn how to prepare for an emergency that happens while traveling. Whether you’re commuting to work, traveling abroad, stranded roadside in severe weather, or taking a road trip with friends, it’s important to always be ready!

During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn about major winter hazards and the practical steps you can take to be prepared for winter.

Have you ever suffered from heat stroke or exhaustion? Have you ever lost power in the summer and were unable to cool your home? Perhaps you had to go to a cool shelter to escape the blistering heat. Summers in Colorado being many different hazards that can impact us all in many ways. During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn about major summer hazards and the practical steps you can take to be prepared for summer.

Have you ever accidentally injured yourself and experienced major bleeding? From kitchen accidents to falling when out for a hike, bleeding can result from many different hazards. When someone is severely bleeding, minutes count! During this free, on-demand course you’ll learn about bleeding control and how to keep blood in the body to increase someone’s chances of survival.
