County Attorney

The County Attorney’s Office serves as general counsel to the Board of County Commissioners, elected officials, county departments, and such other agencies as may be authorized by the Board of County Commissioners. Attorneys appear in all courts of record and before all administrative agencies. The office handles all general civil litigation matters for Adams County, including land use, employment issues, property tax, election issues, and contracts. Additionally, the office files civil cases to enforce the zoning and building codes.

The County Attorney’s Office also provides advice and representation to the Adams County Human Services Department in dependency and neglect cases, state expungement and administrative review hearings, adult service matters, and other civil matters related to the department. The office files all cases for the Child Support Enforcement Unit of the Human Services Department.

The Risk Management division of the County Attorney’s Office oversees the County’s risk and workplace safety programs. Risk Management procures insurance to cover the potential risks for the County and processes claims, including automobile claims. Risk Management oversees the workers’ compensation program for Adams County and assists departments and elected offices with workplace safety and security.

The Labor Relations and Investigations division of the Attorneys’ Office is responsible for coordination with unions, including collective bargaining negotiations, ongoing labor relations, and oversight of the grievance process for union employees. This division also performs independent employment investigations in coordination with People & Culture and attorneys.
