Governor Polis Honors Life and Legacy of Country Music Icon Dolly Parton, Orders Flags to Fly at Half Staff Until Sunset on September 1st
DENVER – Today, Governor Polis honored the life and legacy of American Country music and pop culture icon and philanthropist Dolly Parton, who passed away at the age of 80. Governor Polis ordered that flags across the state shall fly at half staff until sunset on September 1st. Colorado’s partnership with Dolly Parton Imagination Library has helped put over 3.5 million books in the hands of Colorado children.
“Dolly Parton’s music, songwriting, passion for early childhood literacy, and incomparable musical career inspires millions of Coloradans. As a state, we are mourning the loss of her creativity, sparkling love for life, and musical talent. Dolly Parton is a national treasure. Therefore, I order flags to fly at half staff on the day of her memorial once selected to honor her life, career, and incredible legacy of giving back to our community,” said Governor Polis.

As a mark of respect for the memory of Dolly Parton, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, September 1, 2026. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half staff for the same period at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.
