Adams County Board of Commissioners Addresses Allegations Involving Adams County Treasurer
The Adams County Board of Commissioners (BoCC) has requested the resignation of Treasurer Alex Villagran, after an independent investigation found allegations of inappropriate behavior involving multiple county staff members to be credible. He has declined to step down. Villagran, elected in 2022, began his term in January 2023 and has one year remaining in his office.
“We are deeply disappointed with this situation,” said Lynn Baca, Chair of the BoCC. “However, Adams County remains committed to a safe and respectful environment for employees and visitors alike.”
The BoCC engaged a third-party investigator to ensure a thorough and impartial review. The investigation identified corroborated information and confirmed a consistent pattern of inappropriate conduct.
As an independently elected official, the Treasurer is not under the BoCC’s authority, and the Board cannot determine whether Villagran remains in office. The BoCC has, however, acted to ensure a fair review while also protecting county staff. Villagran has refused to resign but agreed to a strict protocol ensuring all county employees feel safe, supported, and heard; he has complied with these requirements.
Adams County remains guided by the responsibility of providing a safe environment for every member of our organization and anyone who visits our offices and will continue to support our employees as needed.
