Adams County Applauds CDPHE for Issuing PHO to Require the GEO Group to Comply with TB Investigation

August 13th, 2026

At Adams County, our top priority is the health, safety, and well-being of our residents. Adams County applauds the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) for issuing a Public Health Order (PHO) to require The GEO Group to comply with the law and allow public health officials to fully investigate the tuberculosis case confirmed in the GEO Aurora ICE Processing Center in June. This order reinforces the PHO from the Adams County Health Department, issued on June 25, and demonstrates that Colorado’s public health system will stand together to protect the people of our communities and uphold the law.

After more than a month of noncompliance from The GEO Group—and more than a month of uncertainty about care for the individual with active tuberculosis and identification and follow-up for their close contacts—the time for cooperation is long-since overdue. At Adams County, our goal has never changed. We remain committed to completing an independent communicable disease investigation to ensure all potentially affected individuals, both inside the facility and in the community, receive the testing, treatment, and support they need. Timely access and collaboration are critical to moving forward and keeping our community safe from additional spread of disease.

Colorado’s longstanding public health laws exist to serve everyone and must be upheld and applied consistently to all people. We look forward to continuing our close partnership with CDPHE, the Denver Health Tuberculosis Program, the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, and our federal partners to conduct and complete this investigation and to protect the health and safety of everyone who lives, works, or visits our communities.
