Adams County Announces New Greyhound Head Start Location in Commerce City

March 23rd, 2026

The Adams County Board of Commissioners (BoCC) has signed a lease with developer Delwest to secure a location in Commerce City for the new Greyhound Head Start location, which will welcome its first student enrollment for the 2026–27 school year beginning in August.

“Delwest came to us to see if the county would be interested in a former childcare facility they had available in the Greyhound neighborhood in Commerce City. We jumped at the chance to partner with them to provide our students with this state-of-the-art location,” said Julie Duran Mullica, Chair of the BoCC. “The county has been fortunate to have an amazing ongoing partnership with Delwest, and we’d like to extend a huge thank you to them for coming to us with this opportunity.”

Delwest is providing the space, located at 6230 Glencoe St. in Commerce City, at no cost to the county. When completed this summer, the location will have two classrooms with capacity for 16 students each. Adams County’s Facilities & Fleet Management department completed the lease last month and is managing a $2 million investment to update the facility for Head Start. This includes expanding the playground area and installing new playground equipment.

“Opening this new Head Start site represents more than a new building; it creates a place where children can explore, learn, and build the confidence they need to succeed in school and in life,” said Katie McDougal, Director of Human Services. “By investing in high-quality early learning environments, we are giving our youngest community members the strong foundation they deserve.”

In addition to the Greyhound facility, Adams County’s Head Start program is open for enrollment for the upcoming year at its other locations throughout the county.

Adams County and Delwest are working with Wold Architects and Engineers on the updates to the existing facility. Delwest and Wold have provided these renderings of interior and exterior areas for public review.

“We’re proud to welcome a Head Start early childhood education program into our community, bringing critical learning resources directly into the neighborhood and helping break down barriers to opportunity,” said Joe DelZotto, founder and CEO of Delwest. “As a private developer inspired by purpose-driven work, it has been a pleasure partnering with Head Start to renovate our clubhouse and create a space where families and young children can thrive.”
